In 2023, I undertook an evaluation of the UBC Academic Leadership Development Program (ALDP). The goal of this project was to inform programming modifications to enhance the effectiveness of ALDP in fulfilling its vision and mission.
Comprehensive Evaluation of the UBC Academic Leadership Development Program, 2023
-
Guided by the ALDP Program Team's Evaluation Plan, I conducted
- Comprehensive review of existing data sources related to the program
- Detailed analysis of the 2023 year-end cohort survey
- Semi-structured interviews with ALDP alumni from the 2022/23 cohort
- Informal discussions with the ALDP Program Team and members of the Planning Team
- A review of the ALDP website and ALDP Canvas Catalog course
The culmination of this project was the creation of an extensive evaluation report. This report delved into key findings concerning the program's structure, logistics, pedagogical approach, content, participant experiences, satisfaction levels, and long-term impacts. The report also provided 15 recommendations for program enhancement.
I worked with two UBC departments – the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine – on the analysis of their EDI surveys conducted the year before.
Data Analysis and Draft Action Plans, Spring 2021 and 2022
-
I analyzed both quantitative data and answers to open-ended questions and prepared reports that
i) identified issues and gaps in the existing practices,
ii) provided key takeaways and action items, and
iii) contained multiple graphs illustrating the revealed patterns.
One of the reports compared the demographics of the survey participants with the available data from the Canadian census.
I served as Research Assistant on the project funded by the University of British Columbia’s Equity Enhancement Grant (PI – Dr. Jude Walker, Department of Educational Studies, UBC). The project aimed to explore how faculty service is interpreted, recognized, and rewarded across UBC and offer recommendations on ensuring equitable consideration of faculty service in tenure, promotion, and merit.

My role involved
i) preparing a literature review,
ii) conducting an analysis of policies and regulations,
iii) assisting with interviewing UBC senior administrators and academic leaders and analyzing these interviews,
vi) drafting a first version of the report and contributing to its final version, and
v) co-authoring a chapter in the forthcoming book R. Johnstone and B. Momani (Eds.) Gender in the Canadian Academy.
I worked as part of the UBC Enrolment Services team on the Equity Enhancement Fund project entitled Equity in Adjudication: Improving UBC Personal Profile Readers’ EDI Competency. The project aimed to ensure that underrepresented and/or marginalized populations were treated equitably in UBC’s application and awards adjudication processes.

I conducted a literature review and examined similar programs in other universities, designed the content for an online training module Mitigating Unconscious Bias in the Admissions Process; revised the existing online training for readers of personal profiles; supplemented this with additional topics, tests and practices; and drafted the project report.
I was one of the founders of the Institute of Lifelong and Continuing Professional Education at Petrozavodsk State University (Russia) in 2012 and served as its Deputy Director.
